The Surprising Avocado

From fruit to nuts: The surprising avocado.

So I’m messing with photos on my iPad and listening to “The Avocado War“ episode of ROTTEN on Netflix.

My attention is suddenly drawn completely away from my iPad when I hear the phrase geopolitical clusterf*ck. I am gobsmacked.

1. I’ve never heard the phrase “geopolitcal clisterf*ck” used in reference to any type of produce.

2. I had no idea avocados were so politically active.

3. Weapons are involved.

What you didn’t know about avocados.

The trendy avocado was discovered by the indigenous Nashua people of Mexico and Central America. They euphemistically referred to the fruit as āhuacatl, or testicles.

Guacamole When avocados were exported to the U.S., they were marketed as “avagato pears” or “alligator pears”- a more child-friendly description for their shape. Eventually, the farmers and marketers settled on the name avocado.

I’ll never look at guacamole the same way again.
